standing seam roofing
Standing seam roofing is considered a “lifetime” roofing system, meaning that they come with an option for a lifetime warranty.
These roofs are a popular choice for commercial buildings. Minimal maintenance and extreme durability make them a very wise choice for commercial roofing. Insurance discounts and the energy savings built into these roofs allow them to pay for themselves in a relatively short time.
Types of Standing Seam
There are several types of standing seam metal roofing systems that we can use: Snap-lock, mechanical lock, batten panel, and nail flange/fastener flange.
Snap-lock systems consist of panels that have been carefully roll-formed with specifically shaped edges that snap together and don’t require hand or mechanical seaming during installation. Mechanically seamed panels are also roll-formed with specific edges that line up with each other. Once the two panels are engaged, a hand or mechanical seamer is used to bend the edges and lock the panels together. A batten panel roofing system involves roll-forming the two legs of the panels and then butting them up next to one another. A metal cap goes over the legs to create a seam, and either snaps on or mechanically seams into place. Nail flange (also referred to as a fastener flange) is similar to a snap-lock panel system, but instead of using a clip to attach the panel to the roof deck, it’s directly fastened down to the deck through one leg of the metal panel. Once the fasteners are in place, the other leg of the panel snaps over, which hides the fastener head.
